Divco – Lisa’s Dolcella Gelato

The Divco has been one of the more unique restoration jobs that we have done here at Radical Rods Rides & Restoration.  The Divco was brought to us by a lady named Lisa who had been searching for a vintage truck for a full year before she found her 1965 Divco at an auction in Florida.  Lisa’s goal was to turn her Divco into a great promotional truck that would turn heads so she could sell her tasty gelato ice cream.  Once the Divco reached our shop, it underwent several modifications, including the removal of several tonnes of steel from the walls, ceiling and back door. We rebuilt the frame rails, lowered the floors (custom fabrication), cut the service window out, added lighting, overhauled the wiring and completed a full restoration both inside and out.

The mechanical was a story for another day.  Although the power train (motor-small block chevy) and steering had all been updated, it wasn’t exactly put together properly – a huge understatement!   All in all, we had a great time taking everything apart and putting it back together again.  You can check out some of the photos in our gallery of the work that was done on this vintage truck:

A little history about the Divco.  Divco is an acronym for for Detroit Industrial Vehicles Company and they were used as delivery trucks throughout North America beginning in 1926.  The Divco was the first “walk in” delivery truck and they maintained a similar look from their inception in 1926 all the way until 1986 when production ceased.  While primarily used as milk delivery trucks in their early days, nothing beats the fresh Gelato that Lisa delivers with her Divco.  Look for Lisa’s truck at the Pan Am games this summer, at the local Farmers Market here in Barrie and at our corporate events at the Radical Automotive Group.  If you are looking to book Lisa’s Divco for an event, you an contact Lisa at the email address or phone number below:
