Purple Hayes ready to go. I decided to stop at the top of the ramp at Essa Road in Barrie & Hwy 400 southbound. Time to have a little fun as I hit the linelock then revved to 5,000 RPM and put the pedal to the metal breathing life into the 22″ wide tires and the wheeling bars hit the ground leaving smoke everywhere as well as utilizing 2 lanes and the looks on the faces of the young couple who gave me a thumbs up as they speed by and a few seconds later the stunned looks as I passed them topping out at 120 MPH or approx 180 kilometers before shutting down. Now for me that is stress relief. Beauty & the Beast sitting side by side to putting Purple Hayes in the garage just moments before the rain. Five charity events already asking for the 1941 Willy’s Coupe to be entered as of now just the 1st annual Mississauga outdoor car show and Radical Restoration in Barrie.

Radical Restoration was commissioned to build my dream street rod a replica of Tom Prufer’s famous black flamed 1932 three window coupe, The artistry is evident throughout ( stance , paint,pin lines, flames, interior, mechanicals ) and the car attracts a throng of drooling car freaks everywhere. It is reliable, beautiful and fast – everything a hot rod is all about. The car exceeded my expectations when i saw it for the first time and to this day I am moved by it every time i look at it. I had it out last night windows down, headers open and ac/dc blasting doesn’t get any better !!!!

WOW I have just had a message from Gary from Radical Restoration who built my dream car Purple Hayes 1941 Willy’s Cpe that we beat out a 1954 Ford Pick Up that cost over one million dollars to build. This blows my mind as I still have a hard time when people express how beautiful Purple Hayes is, maybe a lack of confidence or embarrassed as I am just Pappy no millionaire with unlimited funds to spend on their show cars. Susan and I were out for a drive in the country & she …noticed Radical Restoration trailer with a picture on the side showing a Willy’s he built before. I guess all the whining over the years of selling my steel 41 Willys knowing my back would never survive a restoration that my dream was sold so another person would live out their dreams. Gary built the Willy’s staying within my low budget as some engines in these cars are worth more then the cost of the Willy’s. Gary truly cares about each car, bike, trike, truck etc and realizes that all the hundreds of ours spent on building these vehicle reflects on who he is and what the business is all about. For example, Gary decided that there was no way we could afford a blower which could cost upwards of $10,000. He wanted our engine to stand out and purchased the Don Garlet’s 60’s style Hillbourne fuel injectors from I think it was Finland and painted the tops to match the car at his own expense. This reflects how Gary loves building show cars and bikes knowing that each one is different and to be honest if your renovating your home a contractor 90% of the time goes over budget and only does the work on the contract realizing if you want an upgrade it will cost you the money. Now don’t get me wrong Gary is a business man who has to make a profit or he is an idiot and he is no idiot. If you are ever in Barrie drop by mention my name as Radical Restoration stands behind all the work of each vehicle from show cars to everyday cars that have been in an accident. The Shop will blow your mind and as his daughter says he is The Big Kahuna. Again thanks. Gary will be the main sponsor of a show car event in Barrie on July 26th that Purple Hayes will be attending so if your in the area come by it’s free and will have a few surprises like an old ice cream truck that actually is one & everyone loves ice cream.

I have had several cars restored at Radical and been treated like a VIP every time. I routinely recommend Gary and his crew to my friends for any auto body work from a simple dented fender to a full out classic car restoration. Besides doing a fantastic job you go into the process knowing exactly what to expect “price” wise. For anybody in the classic car hobby you know how hard it is to get a straight answer from most shops. Not at Radical though There are no surprises and no hidden fees.
